12 Days of Christmas Giveaways!!!!

Sometimes things in life change, so since this is a new beginning for me, I have decided to start it with a bang!!!

Starting December 1, 2010, every 2 days, we are going to be giving away some neat things, that will help you stay eating healthy, through the holidays as the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways!!!.

We will be sharing some good tips, recipes, inspiration and maybe a laugh or two and even some good Christmas cheer as we gear up towards the big day and try and maintain eating somewhat healthy and being balanced not stressed.

All you have to do read the posts or watch the videos, as I will let you know what to do and then we will pick a winner and send them a gift.

Something different each time and there are some pretty cool things, if I do say so myself!!

Juicing

I was never a big  juice fan before.  Not even juice you buy in some sort of container have I ever been a big fan of.

I have decided to start juicing more lately in my life and I am really enjoying it.  What a great way to get alot of

extra nutrients, vitamins, minerals but most importantly enzymes.

I have been mixing them up and creating some very good juices that I can feel the benefits right away from.

If you don’t have a juicer, don’t worry, you can blend it up in your blender and use a strainer into a bowl.

Then don’t throw out the pulp, use it to make crackers with or for your dog…..yes dog.  My dog loves it. I don’t give  him cabbage or onions but I mix in some ground flax, some ground organic meat and he is happy!!

Green Juices                                    handful of parsley                                    or                             1/4 cabbage

apple                                                                                                4 – 5 kale leaves

carrot                                                                                              bunch of lettuce

1/4 cabbage

handful of spinach

Drink up and enjoy, just a quicker way of getting more nutrition into your beautiful body.

Organic is the best choice if possible and don’t forget to wash the veggies!!

Remembrance

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada.  Schools, Government and some businesses are closed.  There are some parades but around all cenetafs you will find some service today honoring the men and women who fought in our wars.  Most of us wear a poppy.

I don’t know anyone personally or even in my family who have fought in a war.

Take a few moments today to reflect and give thanks not only to those that have gone to war, those who did not come back, those that are still in a war today and all the great things ad people in your life.

Today is a day of remembering and giving thanks so spend a couple of minutes in silence doing so .

I want to thank all of you who are part of this blog.

Kelp Noodles

I have been having a thing lately for Kelp Noodles.  They aren’t easy to find, at least where I live, so I order them on line from Real Raw Food in BC here, but you might have better luck where you live.

I have been creating all sorts of fun dishes with them lately.  They don’t have a strong taste, yet have lots of minerals and they are somewhat crunchy, so you may not enjoy them, but they are raw.  You can always substitute the kelp noodles with zucchini or radish or whatever else you prefer.

What you will probably find over time or are finding, that the more raw meals you make and eat, the easier it becomes.  Not only in the making but also the clean up,  I am beginning to think that this is fast food!!

Kelp Noodle Spinach Pasta

Chop up a big handful of spinach and put in a bowl

Drizzle over spinach cold pressed sesame oil and a dash of salt. Mix together with your hand, sort of crunch the spinach. Set aside.

I will also take out the serving size of Kelp Noodles that I need and put it in a dish of very warm water, so that the noodles warm up a bit and aren’t cold.

Minced a clove of garlic and add to spinach.

Chop up 1 tomatoe, chop several kalamata black olives, I also added some hemp seeds, about 1 tbsp and chopped parsley, you can get creative and add more if you like, for instance red or orange pepper, green inion, mushrooms etc

Add into spinach and mix up.

Drain kelp noodles and put spinach mixture on top.

Enjoy!!

Very little clean up time and preperation time was probably less than 15 mins……..see what I mean!!

Stress and Food

Do you ever think that the two are related??

Didn’t someone say once ‘let food be thy medicine’???

After reading this article in the Globe and Mail, Our Busy Life is Making You Sick, I really linked a few things together in my life.  I say that, as I have been going through a major transition in my life and the stress levels are high, actually have been for about 2 years now.  No wonder I have been feeling tired so much!!!

Stress……..fight or flight…….real or not, doesn’t matter.

I also have been looking at patterns in my life, especially around food.  When I am stressed how do I react?  Well sometimes by drinking some wine, oh that relaxing state, can I get it another way?? Yes!! Food…..well I realize that for me, food has played a big role in how I handle stress, I either sustain from food or use it as a comfort, don’t want to feel so I eat or don’t.  You know, that knot or anxious feeling in the stomach???  Stress!!

Restrictive or over indulgence…….not a good picture of health.  This time, realizing that stress plays a major role in the health of your body, I am approaching it quite differently  and it feels oh so much better.

I am eating regularly, making sure I get lots of nutrition from my food.  Eating alot of variety, through out the day, and even when I’m not hungry so to speak as I know I need the nutrition, my body is tired. Stress can be related to so many diseases.

I am juicing, adding super foods, getting out in the sunshine whenever the sun is shining, taking time to connect with nature, some deep breathing, meditating and getting back to doing yoga.  It all helps.  How you are living each day, each moment, eating and thinking, without judgement are huge!!

I can feel the difference.  It doesn’t happen over night, but each day brings more vitality, clarity and a feeling of over all more health.

The more I give my body proper food, therefore proper nutrition, the better it is feeling.  The better it is thinking.  The better it is preforming.

The more I decide to have a healthy relationship with food, the better I feel.  Food should be your medicine, your friend……..not something you abuse or fear.  It should be real.

Have a look at your life, your way of eating and your relationship with your food and yourself.  Are you eating or not eating to feel or not feel certain emotions or are you eating to be and feel healthy?

Give it some thought and remember you deserve only the best……..are you giving yourself that???
