Have you ever really looked at that word and gave it some thought?

Diet………hmmm makes you wonder eh??

If you google diet, kinds of diets, type of diets……..OMG…..yet most of them are fads or we wouldn’t have so many of them.

Two things I have done to make my food experience better, well 3 but we’re going to talk about 2 here today and the third I’ll share shortly as they are all important I think.

One was to eliminate the word diet, as we know what word is in there and it’s restrictive.  When I restrict myself or tell myself I can’t or shouldn’t have that, well guess what?? You probably guess right!! I have the type of personality for the most part I don’t like to be told I can’t have something especially when it comes to food.  Now, I can choose not to want it or eat it which is totally different…..see what I mean?  There is no restriction but choice, big difference.

We all know inside it’s calories in calories out, the type of calories make a big difference.  If you are anything like me I don’t have time or care to count calories, just like texting I can’t keep track of how many give me unlimited please!!

Now that is not to say that is card blanche for go ahead eat anything and everything and lots of it, I just found it became easier and easier to let alot of unhealthy foods go and that need to overeat at times left too as I wasn’t denying myself anything. I gave myself permission to be.

When you clean up the way you eat, by eating healthier, whole foods, you don’t want those foods that have all the fat, calories and additives which are empty and nutritionally deprived.  Clean it up and get rid of the word ‘diet’, choose healthier eating, healthier living, healthier being or I’m eating for me……whatever works just stop using the word diet or I’m on a diet!!

The other thing I did along time ago, like before I had kids, was to throw out my scales.  Did I really need to know the number? Who cares?? I stopped looking at those numbers as we know how we feel in our bodies, in our clothes…..don’t we??  I used to weigh myself every day and alot of times not just once………talk about a mind f@%^*!!!!  Those numbers could mess with my head and make or break my day…..that is not the way it should be.

This time of the year my jeans get a little snugger, it’s winter, I’m not out as much I mean it’s dark by 4:30 here for a few months and I don’t do the gym thing really and that is how it works for me.  I didn’t say tight, I say snug. and I can live with that as I know it will come off shortly too once the spring is here.  We are like animals in some ways and need a little more fat in the cold months BUT I don’t need to see how much!! lol

Common sense here and doing things maybe differently.  Stop saying diet and if you find yourself weighing yourself often or you gt upset by the numbers on the scale, get rid of it.  Do you really need that type of anxiety??

Break the pattern……..make it a great and healthy day!!

Food

I haven’t posted for a couple of weeks as I had to fly home to Ontario for a little while and since then I have been left pondering a few things.

My family suffered a loss of someone very dear and quite young, actually the same age as my daughter, they were 2 months apart.  My sister and I were pregnant at the same time.

It was his decision which is always the hardest and the saddest.

So many questions are left unanswered and I keep thinking what is there to our lives?  What is the purpose?  Why do some of us come and go quickly and others stay for a really long time? Why are we here? How can I make a difference in someones life…..even for a moment as we pass one another on the street and I give them a big smile, could that make a difference in their day?  Probably, maybe, who knows but why not do it anyways.

I have the pleasure of each week tuning into Hans Christain King’s Modern Day Mysticism show  and I always leave feeling so peaceful inside. Learning each week that we really are indeed spiritual beings having a human experience no matter what we are going through. The first time I heard his calming, soothing non-judgmental voice, it was an inner knowingness of some sort, like finding an old friend after a long absent.

I have gotten off the spiritual path and am now back embracing it.  It helps to remind us when our days are full of stress, or things just aren’t going the way we had hoped or planned on, there is more to this thing called life.

I started this blog to help people eat healthier, try new different, healthier  recipes and to talk about my journey with food.  I kept feeling like I didn’t know what to share or how to say it and that something has been missing,……..now I know what to share and talk about, as I do have a story.  I also learned while being back home that the recovery rate for people, especially women with an eating disorder is less than 30%……WTF??!!……I couldn’t believe it, that’s it?? That sucks!!!!

So, if my sharing my story, what I did and didn’t do that worked or didn’t work, reaches even just one person, then I will have made a difference…….it’s more than just about food.  I feel so grateful that I am in that low percentage, but it’s time to raise it much higher.

It is now changing to Food to Nourish the Body, Mind and Soul  – as they are all interconnected as we are.  It’s still about food but oh so much more!!

Raw Chocolate Pudding

Raw Chocolate Pudding

Where I live I don’t get to find young coconuts very often so when I go into the big city (lol) and find them especially on sale I am in heaven.

If you haven’t tried one I highly recommend it.  Young coconuts, both the liquid and the meat is not only tasty but very nutritious and you can do lots with them.  I look so forward to being able to make smoothies out of them for my morning shakes.

Here is a simple, quick,healthy and oh so tasty treat.  Good when you are craving that sugar.

 

For a good serving you will need to coconuts for this recipe. You will need to take the top off the coconut, which you can find in an early post here on how to do that.  Be careful as the liquid will start to come out, so I don’t take the top fully off until after I drain the water.

 

Once drained, take the top off and then with a bigger spoon, scoop out the white meat.  There won’t be a lot and it’s not hard like a coconut you are used to seeing.

Put it into your Vitamix or blender.

Add in

2 tbsp Organic Cocoa Powder

2 tbsp Maple syrup (not raw) or Honey (not vegan) or Agave –  I tired using Stevia with this recipe and it just didn’t taste good I much prefer one of the others.

1/4 cup of the coconut water (approx) depending on how creamy or thick you ike it

vanilla  optional I like to throw in a little of the vanilla bean itself

Process until smooth

Some variations after processing it are adding in some Chia seed and  / or sliced up bananas or other fruit.

It’s yummy and takes care of those sweet cravings!!
