Google the word Superfoods and see what comes up.

No wonder people are confused these days!!

How does Salmon, Eggs, Broccoli and a few other similar foods get claimed as Superfoods?  What is the true definition of ‘Superfoods’?

I would like to share with you my beliefs, thoughts, journey with Superfoods and please know I am not here to claim that they cure things BUT I will share that they are nutrient dense foods that feed the body well and or at a cellular level.  As I say to people there is a BIG difference between eating and feeding the body.

I have also been paying attention to all the food blogs out there now and really truly have lost some interest in the whole game.  I know for me personally, with my history of my eating pattern that Superfoods – true Superfoods have helped me with  my health and conscious eating!!

Superfoods should be clean, organic, non-gmo and nutrient dense.  Our society has been lead to believe in the SAD Food Pyramid – don’t you just love it – I am big on becoming aware of programming that has been feed to me, society or that I have engaged in.  SAD – Standard American Diet – SAD – yup don’t need to go much into detail there!! 🙂  Diet – I so try to use other words as our bodies hear all – die – we don’t want or need to diet we need to eat to live, eat for optimal health.  Pyramid – most people have issues with pyramids (sorry couldn’t resist).

What I have also noticed is people don’t really understand Superfoods, what they are or how to use them outside of a Green drink, which I truly believe if most people even gave up pop (or soda) and or coffee (at least reduced it) and drank even one truly real Green drink a day, they would feel so much healthier, clearer or better!

My focus is going to be more on Superfoods, which ones I use / like, how to use them and creating more recipes with Superfoods.  It’s become a natural thing for me but I realize so many people are stuck and no wonder when I google Superfoods and what they are its rather confusing.

I will be going into detail over the next few weeks on Kamut, Spirulina, Chlorella, Hemp, Maca, Activated Barley, Rice Bran Solubles, Chia, Camelina, Raw Cacao, Tumeric and a few others!!  Sharing how to incorporate them more in your foods and meals and recipes – I just created for my beloved a Raw Chocolate Cheesecake with Superfoods – you can’t tell and it still tasted so yummy!! Recipe coming soon!

I feel that sharing and helping people learn about Green foods and Superfoods is so important these days – we have been misled, misguided and advertise to for profits not health.

Labelling is a joke these days and when I walk through a grocery store and look around and see that more than 95% of the store is catered to processed packaged foods and I don’t care what label is on it – natural, organic, added nutrition, gluten free it’s not for the most part real foods.

People look at me funny or give me the line ‘Green foods aren’t real foods’ to which I have learned to reply with a question ‘When did twinkles, hot dogs, pizza, pop, chips, (and I do use a few others) become real foods?”  Who made them?  Was it for health or profit?

Since I use an love Purium an  the Ignite Road Trip  is on and about half way through the tour with 100’s of people c coming out, I thought I would include this recipe!! Please note – most of Purium’s products are foods  and they are live, vegan, organic (certified whenever possible) AND NON-gmo.

 

Mash 1 Avocado well

 

Mix in

 

2 tbsp Coconut oil (Purium’s Tropical Oil)

4 tbsp raw Cacao Powder

4 tbsp raw organic Almond butter (try for raw if possible)

4 tbsp Activated Barley (Purium’s Activated Barley) the closet substitute I would use would be ground Hemp seed

6 tbsp L.O.V.E. (Purium’s L.O.V) another live, vegan protein source/powder or even ground Hemp

2 tsp Spirulina (Purium’s Spirulina)

Mix well together either by hand or in a food processor

Roll into balls or flatten them

Can roll that in shredded raw Coconut or raw Cacao Powder with some Monk fruti sugar (or other type if wanted any sugar at all – not needed)

Keep in fridge

Makes great snacks, treats and since it’s loaded with nutrition and the Activated Barley (slow burning germinated carb) you will have sustained energy!!  If all ingredients are raw, including the almond butter you have a tasty and live treat!

I just had an older video clip with David Sandoval shared with me and I had to share it with others as it is totally about eating healthy!!

In this short clip he talks about models, anorexia, bulimia, why superfoods and the rewards for eating this way! How the 10 Day Transformation got started as Super Food for Super Models!! If you have read my About Me page, you know I struggle with an eating disorder for a long time, I know that consuming super foods helps huge in many areas especially some of the damage that I did to my body years ago – the body is happy being fed nutrient dense foods – you will feel a difference.

On the sidewalks outside the Expo

As you may (or may not) know I have been travelling for the past 6 weeks. In that traveling time we found out about the Anaheim Natural Food Expo and what an adventure!! Glad we stayed the extra days – 3 full days – and we only saw a little more than half – it was a tad overwhelming but we also met a ton of very cool people, made some new friends and got to sample many new products!

I woke up feeling not great on Monday morning, – which got me to really thinking. Yes there was a ton of samples to sample – Organic Chocolate – mostly Cane Sugar, many different Bars, Cookies, Chips, Nacho Chips, Brownies, and I could go on – sweeten, unsweeten, natural,organic, non-gmo and some even raw, lots of different health drinks and Kombucha, Coconut Water and different types of nut mylks.

The one thing that so much of it had in common, no matter what label was on it as far as being Organic, Natural, Non-Gmo was that it was dead or processed. No, not the raw samples – and there was some of that and what was there was very good!

I was a little choosey I will admit and didn’t sample just anything but did let my taste buds take over somewhat especially with the chocolate I will be honest – but how I felt on Monday was a big sign of ‘oh man this is not worth it!!’ I woke up feeling tired, achey, foggy, a tad grumpy and really out of sorts – I don’t know if it was the sugar I am not sued too, too much processed yet natural foods I am not used to or anything else – I do know that it wasn’t fun!

I got to thinking and wondering – how many people wake up like this each day, better yet, how many people wake up like this each day and think it’s normal!!??

Here is my question for you……..Just because it’s labeled ‘natural, ‘organic’ or ‘gluten free’ (which by the way is the latest trend) is it really healthy for you?

Yes and NO

Yes – for the reason being that many times the ingredients are of better quality, may also be ingredients that are non-gmo, and may not have asm much additives, fillers etc

No – as labeling can be somewhat misleading. One ingredient could be ‘natural’ and the rest all garbage, as an example. I suggest to still read the labels, don’t assume.

Another reason is – packaged food for the most part is dead foods (unless of course it is live or raw) and dead food is just that. Our bodies truly need more live foods and raw foods. Not everyone can be, myself included 100% raw, it may work fine for some people. Depending on where one lives – like I do in Vancouver where it rains most of the winter – it’s damp – I like some soups, Quinoa, Lentils etc sometimes in winter, but I still incorporate many live foods, lots of whole foods and of course superfoods.

That I believe makes a huge difference. I have been tested a couple of times like this and it ends up the same way. For me this time, I stepped back and really thought hard about how to move forward with my blog in the best way to share what I do and love for many people and it is to create more healthy yet tasty and easy recipes and many that are nutrient dense.

It was great to see so many vendors, to see that people ware wanting better,healthier choices, and people are waking up and people know that many illnesses are because of the things we are eating, it’s time to make changes – because if we keep doing what we’ve been doing, we will keep getting what we’ve got and so far people are getting bigger and sicker every year – it is not getting better!!

Sarah’s Raw Vegan Cafe

We also met a lady named Sarah and her husband David, in Bend Oregon that has a beautiful raw, vegan cafe and was expanding it while there since her business is growing!!! She served us a delicious yummy tasting Superfood hot beverage and we bought some amazing tasting raw treats that she has created!! What a beautiful, energetic, caring being she is and I look forward to connecting again with her – no wonder her business is expanding!

They are tastier and easier than you think to eat!!

since being on the road there are a few things I am so grateful for!!

One is the preparing ahead of time and bringing some healthy foods / snacks with us as there was nothing and I mean NOTHING at any gas stations or stops to eat – yes there was a ton of junk or franken foods but NO REAL FOODS – how sad.

We even stopped by a grocery store in that had NO fresh food – their produce section was being fixed or redone – the whole thing – so nothing in that store was fresh or alive!!!

the other thing that has made travelling easy is our Purium products – yes I am definitely going to promote them here as not only are they alive, vegan ,organic and non-gmo when none of those things we could find, but also handy, dried (yes still live as they were dried at very low temperatures) but also convenient.

So instead of settling for the crap, fake processed foods on the shelves – we have been able to stick with Whole foods and Superfoods that are live and fresh – Purium and not as we planned ahead,more prepared, didn’t give into temptation, laziness, excuses plus we know how crappy, gassy and bloated we would feel eating anything but!!

its truly incredible when you really start feeding the body instead of just eating how good you can feel – most of us don’t know how good we can feel and its pretty amazing and keeps getting better!!!!

A quick and easy and oh my so tasty salad we threw together one night after attending the locals farmers market.

– fresh mustard greens

– fresh mixed sprouts

– toasted fresh pecans in coconut oil (usually I use Tamari for roasting / toasting nuts) this was

the first time I used Coconut oil and it tasted amazing!!

– chopped dried black olives

– Coconut cheese – yes coconut – it was yummy

– Spirulina (sprinkled on – yes Purium)

– very high quality cold pressed olive oil and balsamic vinegar lightly poured over the salad

We also created a side dish of Guacamole with herbs, lemon juice, himalayan salt, garlic and spirulina.

Easy, quick, tasty and nutrient dense and oh yeah real whole foods – eating healthy made easy!!

Here I am eating at Chocola Tree in Sedona Arizona – an amazing Raw / Vegan highly conscious, organic restaurant – all dressed in Green eating the Green Goddess salad (no I didn’t preplan it lol). Salad of romaine lettuce, kale, pulse, seaweed, cucumbers, avocados, sprouts and a little nut hummus – greens, tasty and nutrient dense!!

Have been travelling and the rest stops / pit stops are full of junk / processed foods – another good thing about Purium is it’s easy to travel with and because the body is being fed (like I always say difference between eating and feeding the body) we eat less and brought our own healthy foods so being able to stop in the rest areas and enjoy some nature – life can be easy and beautiful!!

How many fresh foods are you adding in to your way of eating?

I had an Organic Papaya given to me the other day and it was so tasty, so delicious and so fast and convenient!!!

Fresh foods are loaded with Enzymes – something I will go into more later in a future post.

I challenge you today to eat some fresh foods and see if you can really taste them – savor them – that really is eating healthy.

Remember it’s not what we do sometimes – it’s what we do most of the time!

This really is the K.I.S.S. method!!  (Keep It Simple Sweetheart)

I’m on Day 4 of my  Transformational Cleanse – yesterday was a hump day – I felt it – today much better, when I am finished with the cleanse I will post more recipes

Met up with some friends today and headed out to the Non-Gmo and Gluten Free Expo in downtown Vancouver.

My eyes truly got opened up today holy crap!!  No wonder people truly are confused about healthy eating!!!

It’s great to see people standing up and bringing out information on GMO’s and what they are about and products – whether packaged or fresh to the public.  If you don’t know much I highly recommend watching Genetic Roulette and GMO OMG – we truly need to be aware especially for our kids!!

You will see this sign on your food and it will appear on more foods in the future!

What really opened my eyes up today and actually sadden me for a bit until I realized wow I really am on a mission and love where I am at!!

image gluten freeThis Gluten free thing has gotten way out of hand, please don’t get me wrong – I know if someone has Celiac disease it is very serious.

I think though it’s the new way to sell package foods – it doesn’t matter that it has copious amounts of sugar, palm oil, canola oil to name just a few but so much is being labelled gluten free is kind of a joke.  I mean I know there is wheat in so many products that really shouldn’t be BUT they are processed products – I don’t care how much ‘natural’, ‘organic’ or other label they slap on it – it’s still processed even when labelled ‘Gluten Free’ and that is a good part of the problem.

Yes i know our crops are sprayed with Round Up – what you didn’t know that?? Watch the documentaries.  The best way to deal with that is eat way more whole foods, real foods and super foods from Mother Nature – notice there are no labels?  The more fresh and whole the better.

It’s been a busy start to the New Year for me but after today it has only shown me that I need to stand up and be louder – people are being fooled and their health is more important than that!!
