Food is Becoming Boring
There is so much talk about food, blogs about food, websites about food and controversy about food that I feel like I just want to step back.
I mean that in a way that there is some great sites and people doing some great things like Food Babe and Natural News informing us about what is really going on, making changes and exposing the truth about healthy real foods.
I am tired and disappointed of finding out stores like Whole Foods are becoming Whole Ripoffs after being know as Whole Pay Check……when does the profit over health or profit over people stop??
There are health products up the ying yang but when you look closer many are not what they claim to be.
Keep It Simple Sweetie
Eat as much real foods as possible – organic and non-gmo too!
Yet everyone is different and good things sometimes get pushed to the extreme as in the Ketosis way of eating – makes sense, good healthy fats and then I see people promoting all the hot dogs and bacon you can eat as it’s protein and fat…………I just shake my head.
And I feel like I get too preachy as I so want people to realize the lies, the untruths about food etc
I lost my mojo for creating recipes and I finally realized why – it became a job but I love being in the kitchen and creating – I don’t usually like measuring and recording what I am doing – it takes the fun the spontinanity out of it!
I’ve been asking lots of questions lately – like why if someone is healthy as in eating all the right foods and exercising do they drop dead? Why do some people look super great and others don’t even though they are eating the same. And so on……..many questions
Why am I here? What is my true purpose? Ok yes I’ve been going deep.
Been doing more yoga, meditation – want to do more breath work, paying attention and listening to my body when it feels good and when it doesn’t, learning about energy and consciousness – which I keep coming back to over the last 5 years or so…….Quantum Physics fascinates me. So does Human Design that I am diving into as it’s the first thing that has given me some answers to some of these questions.
What is a soul connection? How does my soul communicate with me? How do I wake up my heart more?
What about the struggles I’ve had in life and turned them around – should I be sharing that with people who may be struggling with some of the issues I’ve had mainly an eating disorder, low self esteem and a bad body image thoughts.
What direction do I want to move in?
Can I be the change in the world that is needed, how can I help and how can I be of service?
I am finding this more important than what I ate yesterday.
Another layer of healing and awareness is underway……..for me at least that is!!
When we can lose the addiction or any charge we have with anything or anyone then we know healing is happening…….speaking of healing – what about this pasts week’s elections??
Eating Healthy While Travelling
Many people have asked me about how did we eat healthy while travelling?
If you’ve ever travelled in the USA (and Canada and probably many other places) you will find that it’s all the same restaurants whether sit down, fast food or in between. Has that ever made you wonder why it’s always the same places – you can see the signs on the highway.
I’ve always settled when I travelled but no more as I end up paying for it but ALSO my health is my #1 priority. When I got totally burnt out and needed to sleep like 12 hours plus a day, I will never go back to that. I know stress plays a huge role, but also what I put in my body AND mind.
It’s now my lifestyle and I won’t compromise – that is my choice and I have no judgment of what others do unless they are looking for solutions!
Fast processed foods are mostly chemical concoctions labelled as foods and we have been advertised to so much that we think it’s food. don’t ever settle or buy into the b.s!
When we stopped for gas I would go into the gas stations and some of them were like littlemini malls yet so full of crap – we wonder why obesity is at an all time high, high cholesterol, heart disease, food addictions, food allergies and so on.
We had many picnics somewhere off the highway when we had time and if we were limited we would pull into the rest area as we had our coolers with our foods.
At the same time that I share that – I have to admit I love making food and creating – I am all about creating whether it be in the kitchen, in photography, in new experiences, in art, new friendships – I love creating. I also get not everyone is like that.
What if you came better prepared? You brought a cooler with some food already made or healthier versions that you bought before you left?
There are soooo many great blogs on the internet now with truly healthy recipes – many that are easy to make. Yet if you truly don’t like that or have time, go buy a healthier version of things at the grocery store.
Here are some ideas:
Hummus (of course look for non-gmo) great with veggies or good crackers
Avocados – great on their own or easy to make a quick tasty gac – (next recipe I will post)
Fruit to snack on especially if it’s crunchy.
Raw nuts like Almonds or Cashews – mixed with Raisins (always make sure they are organic as grapes are highly sprayed),
Wraps – great to hide all kinds of veggies
Non-gmo natcho chips with fresh salsa
so many other things once you start looking – easy to get creative here
To some that may seem like extra work, or the thought of ‘Well I’m holidays so I’m not working or I”m going to eat whatever or………’
Life is short – whether you live to 65 or 95 years old – it goes fast. Why not live it feeling the best you can so that each day can be filled with great experiences.
I mean who likes being stuck in a bed or a chair due to an illness that could have been prevented.
“Take care of your body – it’s the only place you have to live!” – Jim Rohn
I really go on about food as I do know and believe the way we eat effects us greatly – if we are constantly taking in garbage then that effects us in how we feel, move and think.
That goes for thoughts too – more on that next time!!
Create a Life YOU Love!!
PS – I had some cool photos of places we stopped to eat and picnic and many were amazing places – I either lost the photos when my hard drive crashed or I just can’t find them yet on my back up…………you get the idea I hope though!
I know for many of us, markets could be a thing of the past with summer ending and well into fall!
I don’t know if you take the time to shop at markets or not but highly encourage you to do so.
I have been hearing from many people similar things like – ‘It must have been hard eating healthy while travelling?’
And the answer is NO!! (a post on that is coming soon too)
David and I live this lifestyle and it’s part of who we are. We don’t just do it when it’s convenient, or get sloppy about our health – as once you lose it, it is so hard to get back. And once you pass a certain point of eating, doing and being the health things you just can’t go back – basically you are awaken and you see the light and truth – there is no going back.
What does all that mean?
Many people think they are eating healthy because they shop at Whole Foods (watch this great video by the Health Ranger, it will open your eyes up and save you money!), or eat packaged foods labelled organic or gluten free, go to a yoga class several times a week, wear Lululemon and eat brunch on the weekend at the latest ‘in’ restaurant. Now I’m being fairly general yet trying to paint a picture -to some it’s part of being in the trend. To others it’s a lifestyle choice.
That type of scenario people are doing better than most, but many do it to look cool…….does one really understand true health, eating healthy, thinking / meditating and being true health and empowered?
What I am realizing is that it takes more than grabbing a juice at your favourite local bar (or off the shelf which to be honest is better than juices in general but for optimal nutrition – juice needs to be drank within an hour of it being pressed fyi for any optimal nutrition) or doing a couple of yoga classes a week – it’s not as much about the body or work out as it is a moving meditation where one takes the practice of non-judgment out in their every day world.
Most packaged foods are still processed even if the ingredients are healthier or organic. Please don’t get me wrong, I eat them too, I am not up on a soap box here, real health still comes down to eating mostly real foods, raw and alive foods, natural foods that aren’t loaded with lead or sprayed with other poisonous things, and of course non-gmo, adding in superfoods, minerals (not isolated ones), eating high quality proteins (yet not too much) from conscious sources, just to name some things.
Which brings me back to markets – this is where we can eat healthier – as most of it is real food. We can get to choose how we spend our dollars, support local farmers, eat what is in season and enjoy the creativity of who is there with some of their healthy food creations (outside of farmers growing organic, non-com foods). Connecting with people that love what they do (for the most part) , you can tell the difference by tasting their goods.
A lot if not most of the food these days I am finding at the markets is organic – woohoo!!
While on our travels we got the privilege of catching a few markets in different states and they were all great. All different, yet similar in that they have fresh foods grown by people who love what they do – they have to as not many will grow their own gardens – many also can’t today that I realize.
So if you live in an area where you can visit a market year round – do so!!
And for the ones that maybe missed the market this year – there’s next year – you won’t be disappointed.
We sampled (and bought) some of the best food I’ve ever tasted from the markets we went to while travelling and yes we have a cooler and I will post on ways to eat healthier and to make it easier while travelling !
Thanks for stopping by!!
