If you like or eat KFC…….

I must admit, I used to love KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) once in awhile. I know, when I stop and think about it now, it’s pretty gross and I haven’t eaten it in a long time.

When I came across this article by Mike Adams on Natural News the new alliance with Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), where pink buckets of fried chicken are sold under the slogan, “Buckets for the Cure” I got curious and read it.

What really got me was  the website www.KentuckyFriedCruelty.com and how it reveals the horrifying details of how KFC suppliers treat chickens before they are served up to consumers in pink  or even the regular barrels.

I felt I had to do my part in sharing what goes on behind the scenes and share it with as many people as possible so that we can put a stop to these kinds of ways of things being done.

They may be just animals but they still don’t need to be treated as such, sign the petition and lets stop animal cruelty!!!

If you don’t want to sign the petition then, please at least stop eating at KFC.…..I have!!!

Raw Beet Soup

Raw Beet Soup

Sometimes you feel like you need something to warm you up on damp days, ok it rains here alot on the West Coast of Canada!!!

This time I used beets, but I mix it up and use other veggies too. It’s quick and simple and oh so good for you!!  Beets are full of lots of good vitamins, minerals and nutrients so you know you’re eating something good here!!

Throw in your processor

2- 3 med size peeled beets

1/2 cup cashews (this will give it a more creamy flavor, you can omit it and just add more water)

juice of 1/2 lemon

1 tsp celtic sea salt

1 – 2 cloves garlic

some chopped jalopeno (optional but I like a little spice)

spring water – start with about 3/4 cups and add more depending on how thick or thin you like your soup

I always recommend tasting things as you go to suit your tastes, as you are using fresh ingredients and they may taste different each time.

Blend until smooth, pour into bowls.

I topped mine with chopped parsley, cilantro and green onion.

Not Sure if your product is on the list or not, read Mike’s article here.  It frustrates me when I go to the store and purchase products for myself and family thinking they are healthy only to find out the labeling has been misleading. Another reason I have choosen Miessence, and they were on the good list!!!!

Jodi's Raw Veggie Spaghetti

Here is something that I love making and eating!!

I vary it from time to time, but what is pictured here is

1 serving

1 roma tomatoes chopped

1/2 red pepper chopped

black olives chopped

1 green onion chopped

a bit of parsley or cilantro chopped on top

1 – 2 tbsp pesto sauce (recipe to follow)

sprinkle some nut cheese on top (scroll down past the smoothies on the link)

grate a peeled zuchini (or you can use a spiroli for pasta like noodles), put the pesto on the zuchini, put the chopped

veggies on next followed by the parsley and nut cheese

Pesto Sauce

Put in food processor

1 – 2 bunches of basil leaves

4 – 5 cloves of garlic

oil olive

1/2  cup pine nuts (or you can substitute pumpkin seeds or any other nut that your prefer)

Process up together to a smooth consistency

you may always add more olive oil to make it thinner or less for a thicker paste like which is what I do (it’s more concentrated)

until I need to use it in a recipe, I can then add a little more oil depending on what I want.


Green Smoothies

For me Smoothies are easy to make, great way to start the day and also an incredible way to get more leafy greens into one’s diet and we all need more of that!!!

Here is a basic recipe

couple of bananas ( they add favor and a little more creamier texture, Iadd some frozen and fresh)

couple handfuls of greens (switch them up but you can add spinach, lettuce, parsley, collard greens  kale to name a few)

you can add another fruit if you like as you do want it to taste good, it’s good to add lots of blueberries or berries of any sort, they are full of antioxidants, add flavor and color.  I don’t hesitate to add a good cup of berries or more.

Add fresh water,  when I put the fruit and greens in I usually fill it half with water or a little less.

Blend it up and you have a great green smoothie.

You can add any kind of fruit you wish, experiment for your taste. If you like it creamier use can use a nut mylk, try and stay away from dairy here.


Food Inc

Last night I finally sat down and watched the movie Food Inc ( you can watch the trailer here). You should be able to get it at your local video store or library. I must admit, I put off watching it for awhile as I knew, but didn’t really want to know, know what I mean!!
If you haven’t seen it yet and your food and your health are a priority, then I highy recommend watching it!!
We are worth it!!!
So run, don’t walk to your video store or library to get this video and watch it. Make your health a top priority by knowing what you eat!!  This is another reason to support your local farmers!!

Why Organic???

You are what you eat and your skin is the largest organ of the body, everything you eat makes a difference and everything you put on your skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream.  For me, if I am going to eat healthy& raw, I want it to be organic as often as possible, and I want to put healthy organic products on my skin as well.


We already get exposed to enough toxic chemicals and if we have a chance to reduce that, why not??

Foods and products that are organic are not gentically modified (GMO), don’t have pesiticides, herbicides and other chemicals.  These chemcials are detrimental to your health and are usually cancer causing.

Organic foods and products reduces overall toxins in your body further increasing your health and vitality. They are more nutritious, safer, have more vitamins and minerals and are better tasting.

I find everytime I go to the store and try and find a safe, healthy or organic product, reading the labels is quite amusing to say the least!!  I don’t know what the guidelines are but to put on the labels nautral or organic and to find out they still have toxic chemcials in them is frustrating.

These are some foods that have high amounts of pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics etc

– beef, chicken & pork

– dairy

– strawberries, raspberries and cherries

– apples and pears

– tomatoes

– spinach and salad greens

– peaches and nectarines

– coffee

– potatoes

– grapes (imported from Chile)

– celery

– peppers red and green

Organic may be more expensive, but for me, I feel it’s worth it.  A good way of getting fresh, organic and usally well priced produce is through your local organic farmer or at farmer’s markets.

Looking for organic skin and body care products?? Look no further, these have been the best I have found globally.

Nut Pate

There are lots of different nut pates out there, and maybe this has been done before, but here is one that I made the other night when I was having a bunch of ladies over and it went over very well, and it was quick and easy to make!!

Nut Pate

1 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, and I did soak these for about 2 hours before hand

put in processor and mixed a bit

Added in 1/4 water to start (may need to add more depending on the consistency)

1 – 2 garlic cloves

juice of 1 lemon

1/2 tsp sea salt

Mix well together.

Now, I had just made pesto in my processor and there was still some left in the processor, so I added about 1 tbsp of pesto, the nut pate did have a greenish color to it, but the taste was great.

I then put in on some raw crackers that I had made, with a little bit of pesto and a piece of black olive and they were scrumptious!!

The crackers that I made for this came out of the book Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen: Easy, Delectable Living Foods Recipes
I just dehydrated these longer and scored them smaller to make crackers instead more like a bread.

Our Food

In our local grocery stores there are isles  and isles of ‘food’, over 47 000 items actually, but how much of it is really food????

As I have become more and more aware over the years, have tried to eat healthier, I have made a rule to myself to keep things simple when I have boughten package foods ( before I became raw and of course with teenagers now!!).

I use the KISS method, you know, Keep It Simple Silly, or Sweetheart of whatever you would like:)!!

Here are my guidelines that I follow……

–  If I have to learn ‘swaheli’ (is there really such a language??), just to learn how to pronounce the words, then I didn’t buy it!

– If I had to carry a dictionnary around to look up the word (and there really is no such thing as some of these words aren’t there!),  then I didn’t buy it and why is it so hard to find out what some of these words are, like the dozen or so different names for MSG????

–  If it has a shelf life longer than my dog’s life, another NO!

I kept it pretty simple, and for anyone starting out and going Raw is just to radical, just try these simple rules.  I will post again on where you can then proceed from keeping it simple to even eliminating more and still keeping it simple.

Eating healthy shouldn’t be complicated or hard, it’s just like learning how to ride a bike, it’s something new, but over time, the choices get easier and clearer and you will feel the benefits of it!!

You will probably also start to notice that you won’t be going down as many isles for so called ‘food’!!

Raw Hummus

Raw Hummus

I love hummus, have always eaten lots of it, so when I came across a recipe for raw, I got excited.

The original recipe I found used zuchini, but what I found it was inconsistent as far as consistentcy.  Then I found another one with cashews which is nice but sometimes it nice to get more veggies in, so what I have done is combined them both.

I start with 2 smaller size zuchini

then I add the rest of the ingredients like regular hummus, and I have to admit, I am terrrible for measurements, I always do it for taste, but here goes!

juice of 1/2 to 1 lemon

1-2 garlic cloves

sea salt to taste

1 tablespoon raw tahini

blend it all in a processor,  now sometimes it will be too  soft, so then I add cashews till I get the texture that I want

maybe up to 1 cup.

You can eat right away or let sit for more flavor.


New Direction

Hi there,

If ever you have stopped by my blog here or earlier at my other location, you will notice that I have switched directions…….yes we are allowed to do that!!!

I have to admit, I have been ignoring all the signs that I should have bee paying attention to in my life and trying to do things that I thought I should do or would bring me more money, but it never felt right or comfortable.

Yes, I have a business with my husband that I enjoy doing and we are getting rather good at it, but this is the essence of me…….this is my passions that I cannot deny any longer, so I’ve decided to make it my focus in my spare time and maybe one day it will be my where I spend my full time!!
