Does Natural Mean Healthy??

As you may (or may not) know I have been travelling for the past 6 weeks. In that traveling time we found out about the Anaheim Natural Food Expo and what an adventure!! Glad we stayed the extra days – 3 full days – and we only saw a little more than half – it was a tad overwhelming but we also met a ton of very cool people, made some new friends and got to sample many new products!

I woke up feeling not great on Monday morning, – which got me to really thinking. Yes there was a ton of samples to sample – Organic Chocolate – mostly Cane Sugar, many different Bars, Cookies, Chips, Nacho Chips, Brownies, and I could go on – sweeten, unsweeten, natural,organic, non-gmo and some even raw, lots of different health drinks and Kombucha, Coconut Water and different types of nut mylks.

The one thing that so much of it had in common, no matter what label was on it as far as being Organic, Natural, Non-Gmo was that it was dead or processed. No, not the raw samples – and there was some of that and what was there was very good!

I was a little choosey I will admit and didn’t sample just anything but did let my taste buds take over somewhat especially with the chocolate I will be honest – but how I felt on Monday was a big sign of ‘oh man this is not worth it!!’ I woke up feeling tired, achey, foggy, a tad grumpy and really out of sorts – I don’t know if it was the sugar I am not sued too, too much processed yet natural foods I am not used to or anything else – I do know that it wasn’t fun!

I got to thinking and wondering – how many people wake up like this each day, better yet, how many people wake up like this each day and think it’s normal!!??

Here is my question for you……..Just because it’s labeled ‘natural, ‘organic’ or ‘gluten free’ (which by the way is the latest trend) is it really healthy for you?

Yes and NO

Yes – for the reason being that many times the ingredients are of better quality, may also be ingredients that are non-gmo, and may not have asm much additives, fillers etc

No – as labeling can be somewhat misleading. One ingredient could be ‘natural’ and the rest all garbage, as an example. I suggest to still read the labels, don’t assume.

Another reason is – packaged food for the most part is dead foods (unless of course it is live or raw) and dead food is just that. Our bodies truly need more live foods and raw foods. Not everyone can be, myself included 100% raw, it may work fine for some people. Depending on where one lives – like I do in Vancouver where it rains most of the winter – it’s damp – I like some soups, Quinoa, Lentils etc sometimes in winter, but I still incorporate many live foods, lots of whole foods and of course superfoods.

That I believe makes a huge difference. I have been tested a couple of times like this and it ends up the same way. For me this time, I stepped back and really thought hard about how to move forward with my blog in the best way to share what I do and love for many people and it is to create more healthy yet tasty and easy recipes and many that are nutrient dense.

It was great to see so many vendors, to see that people ware wanting better,healthier choices, and people are waking up and people know that many illnesses are because of the things we are eating, it’s time to make changes – because if we keep doing what we’ve been doing, we will keep getting what we’ve got and so far people are getting bigger and sicker every year – it is not getting better!!

PS – One of the cool things on our journey was because we make our health a priority, eating in most restaurants is not on our list. Yet we had some of the best 5 star seats wit nature being able to watch beautiful sunsets.

Sarah’s Raw Vegan Cafe

We also met a lady named Sarah and her husband David, in Bend Oregon that has a beautiful raw, vegan cafe and was expanding it while there since her business is growing!!! She served us a delicious yummy tasting Superfood hot beverage and we bought some amazing tasting raw treats that she has created!! What a beautiful, energetic, caring being she is and I look forward to connecting again with her – no wonder her business is expanding!

    Lovely pics, beautiful people& an interesting story, but what I would also like, is a list & description of the Purium product line, so that I can make a personal decision for my present needs at this time!?
    Is there a compilation of various dehydrated greens as a single product or are individual greens, for example,barley greens packaged as a single product!!?? I need a clearer picture of what you’re marketing!???
