I normally don’t advertise like that but with all what is going on in North America with our food and eating healthy has become a make work project that should be easy and it’s not!

Why Purium?

Once you meet David Sandoval or read his book and therefore get a sense of his vast knowledge and training (only with the best that truly knew and understood the body and real health from the past) and his dedication to never using cheap fillers or by-products, working first hand with farmers so developing a real relationship and giving people a choice so we don’t have to stand or fight against the big corporations who truly don’t give a rats ass about your health it’s about profits – therefore we vote by how we spend our dollars – we either keep supporting things that literally are slowly killing us or spend our dollars that improves our health with companies that truly do care and make a difference – we always have choice.

Purium  – show for Pure and Premium was under another name for more than 20 years as a buying club and private labelling company – they are not new.  Approximately 4 years ago David was approached to take it into the network marketing area to help spread the word faster and bigger for his amazing products. After much thought and learning about the industry he decided to jump in.  There are other companies out there that make some similar claims – all you have to do is read the labels to truly know the difference!!

Part of that choice is becoming educated.

That is one of the great things happening with Purium – new website coming out early Sept with short videos on all their products – what they do and how they can help – taking away some of the internet confusion!!

Many people when they are first introduced to Purium start with the 10 Day Transformation – first question many people ask is ‘Will I lose weight?’ – the answer is probably yes but more importantly you will be cleaning out, re-balancing much inside AND feeding the body at a deep cellular level and getting rid of parasites – plus learning more about ‘real foods.

Cleanses and transformations are good to do – unfortunately many of them are harsh, misleading and we lose muscle with them.

Real Foods

What does beauty from the inside out really mean?

As you know I love eating healthy, and helping, guiding, inspiring others to do the same.

We have been so programmed and lied to by tv, advertising and hidden agendas from corporations that are for profits not health – that it’s confusing and overwhelming for the average person these days. I so get that!!

Our bodies are the biggest source and signals for what is truly going on inside, but we’ve been taught to ignore that, not to trust our inner guidance ( and many if not most people are shut off from that connection). If we need to go to the dr’s for some reason – the dr. may spend 10 mins with you, doesn’t ask about what you eat, how you live, if you exercise, mediate, laugh, get sunshine or how much water you drink, have a healthy sex life, if you like or hate your job or even your spouse and so on. Instead they prescribe a pill maybe several in many cases..
Don’t get me wrong, if I broke my leg I would go to the dr’s but not for other things.

Our bodies talk to us, when in pain they are literally screaming at us to pay attention (unless of course you broke your leg :)).

Also our thoughts and emotions reflect out from our bodies as well.

Most people that are eating healthy live foods, also have mostly healthy thoughts and feelings ( no one is perfect nor should they be) that are self empowering, self loving, vibrant, alive and have more life.

www.jodiburke.comChances are they are also taking time for life enhancing or healthy things like exercise, yoga, nature, laughter, good sex, water, (oops wrong order??? Lol) fulfilling relationships ( in other words loving not draining or drama causing relationships) and work that inspires them and that they love (notice I didn’t use the word job???).

I’m on my way to catch a ferry this am and was in rush hour traffic – I cannot imagine doing this every day, how much time does it take and suck from someone not to mention energy?? I look at people’s eyes and faces and see so much stress………..the body talks.

The point I am making here is we have been programmed to believe that these shampoos, or this skin care line or this product for acne etc etc will take care of things. How many times have you tried something and it didn’t work or only works for a little while and then stops? Or that we have to keep up with the Jones – who the hell are they anyways? Or we need to fit in – according to who? Trading time for money and at the same time letting someone else decide your worth. Or how it’s never new enough, big enough, fast enough,……..according to who????

I want to leave you with some questions to ponder……..

What is real health to you?

What is real wealth to you?

Are you feeling as good as you cold be?

Who’s programming have you boughten into – the dr’s, tv commercials, ads, collective consciousness or yours?

What feeds your soul and are you doing it?

When was the last time you laughed and laughed and laughed?

When was the last time your went for a walk in nature?

How much clean water (no not bottled) are you drinking?

How much fresh or live foods are you eating?

When was the last time you meditated or were fully present?

Do you love what you do or spend most of your time at? (i.e. work)

Are your relationships healthy, fun, empowering?

Do you have a healthy relationship and sex life with your partner?

Is there open and honest communication in your life?

How much tv do you watch?

Do you spend our free time doing things you love to do?

Do you spend any time on self care?

Do you exercise or do any body movement?

Keep is simple – eat real foods ( not from a package) as much as possible, use green foods and Superfoods, use body products that are free of chemicals, toxins and artificial additives, think and feel amazing – no matter what is going on. Yes we all have crap in our lives but it’s not what is going on around you it is what is going on inside of you that matters!! Find ways that nurture you!

Weed and tend to that garden of weeds daily (mind bs like judgement, criticism especially towards self, dramas).

Instead focus on

Intentions

Gratitude

Love

Self Love

Being Present

Eating Clean

Joy

That is true beauty from the inside out!

Kale, Apple & Pecan Salad with Spirulina – Hemp Dressing

Sometimes we can take the simplest foods, combine them and come up with not only a tasty snack or meal but also one that is totally nutrient dense. This is totally a raw and vegan dish incorporating superfoods. The more greens in your way of eating the better!!! The more real foods – which are live foods – which aren’t man made or have their own commercial – are what you want to eat more of. I don’t care what the label says – organic, natural, gluten free etc – they are usually processed and unless the label says raw – it’s dead foods.
And to be clear – not that I am against dead foods – but most of us need more live foods and superfoods in our way of eating!!
If you have to buy packaged foods – try and make sure you read the labels with ingredients – you should be able to say and or know what all the ingredients are and better if it’s dehydrated so it’s still live or raw – meaning it still has real nutritional value and most importantly enzymes which are needed by the body!!

Salad
I used a mixture of organic Greens and Kale or you can use just Kale – I have tried it both ways and both are tasty!!

– 1 small box mixed organic Greens

– 1 bunch Kale (chopped or torn into pieces) and mixed in with Greens or on it’s own

– 1 – 2 Apples cut up in bite chunks

– 1/2 cup roasted or dehydrated Pecans

2 ways of making roasted or dehydrated Pecans – I usually use my stove top as I wait to the last minute I will be honest. When I am organized and think ahead it’s not a problem 🙂 I put in some Tamari or Braggs (approx 3 tbsp) into a pan on med – low heat and mix in Pecans, sometimes I add in Agave (approx 2 tbsp) for a little sweeter version.

Stir well, and let sit, stirring often until the Tamrai or Braggs starts drying – take off heat and let cool. You can cook this faster by using higher heat but you will also destroy the enzymes. Once fully cool down, add to salad. That is all I put in the salad – but don’t be afraid to add in more if you like – some veggies or herbs or………you aren’t limited!!!

Spirulina Hemp Dressing

I always keep my salad dressings simple if I even use one – yet sometimes I like to shake things up. This one was one of those that even my daughter liked!! Yes it is Green!! lol

– 1/4 cup cold pressed Olive Oil

– 1/2 juice of Lemon

– 1/4 cup Hemp Seeds

– 1 tsp Spirulina (Purium’s organic, live & non-Gmo)

– 1 tbsp raw Apple Cider Vinegar

– 3 tbsp Agave

– 1 clove Garlic

– pinch Himalayan Sea Salt

Throw all in a Vitamix, blender or hand blender until mixed well.

Pour onto salad. Keep rest in fridge in a glass bottle or air tight container.

Famous saying goes: “We are what we eat”, or really what we can assimilate. The more you eat sugar, hydrogenated oils and processed foods as an example, the unhealthier your body becomes.   Even though you might not sense the negative changes immediately, you can be sure that your body will charge you later on for being neglectful.  Basically, key is with starting new, healthier ways of eating (not dieting) is to try to add more greens as much as possible.

Sometimes also changing little things that we eat daily or often can make a huge difference – ie if you drink diet pop, switch to just plain pop as the sweetener is sugar (most times) and not an artificial one, then maybe go to juice instead as it has less chemicals, then maybe add in more water (after all we are more than 70% water).  Instead of getting fires as a side order a salad – these seemingly little things can make a huge difference in your health and your weight.

Green vegetables and leafy greens are healthy but have you ever considered more Greens?

www.jodiburke.com Greens like in Kamut, Barley, Wheat Grass, Spirulina and Chlorella.  They are loaded with Chlorophyll and Enzymes which is what our modern day diets are void of mostly!!

Chlorophyll is actually a green pigment found in plants, which serves its purpose of turning the solar energy into useful nutrients which plants use for food. Those nutrients created by using the energy of sun are actually as useful for us, as well as for plants. Although humans can’t use photosynthesis to create food, as plants do, eating plants rich in chlorophyll can help us heal our body and enhance our health. The greener they are, the more chlorophyll it has contained, which is great – it’s more alive – just like you and the more alive foods you eat the more alive you will feel and become!!

Foods with high concentration of chlorophyll are dark green. Green foods are rich in minerals, calcium, magnesium, vitamins and many other things that the body needs for optimum health.

In our modern day society supplements are often pushed on us instead of real foods, superfoods or herbs that have been around for centuries.  The body knows how to digest and utilize these foods easily and properly.

The body can heal itself when given the right environment.

There is so much I could write here about Green foods and Superfoods but instead why not share the passion and knowledge of a great leader who has done much research and worked with 1000’s of people to show that using these foods does work from the results people are getting.

Where I started with this recipe and where I ended up truly surprised me but in a very good way!

I love surprises especially when they taste good! 🙂

That is what is fun or cool when you are using fresh, real ingredients – don’t be afraid to explore or if it’s not as tasty to your liking add a little something here or there or a little more.

And Green – kind of bright but oh so healthy and tasty making healthy eating or eating healthy easy!!

This is a Vegan, Gluten free and basically Raw recipe (Nutritional yeast may not be considered ‘raw’)

Recipe

–  1 cup Cashews – soaked for about an hour or longer (this helps to softens them, if you don’t have the time for this it’s not totally necessary)

– 1 clove Garlic

–  juice of 1 Lemon

–  Salt to taste

– 1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast

–  1/2 – 3/4 cup Water (less for a thicker dip or more water for more of a sauce type)

–  1 tsp Greens (Purium’s Power of 10 Veggie) – this is optional, it tastes good without it but this does add flavor and tons of nutrition easily

Put all ingredients into a Vitamix or blender and blend until smooth

Add in Spinach – for this recipe I added in a small container full of Spinach – you can leave some till the end and finely chop the spinach for a more textured dip.

Add in Dill – I used approximately 3 tbsp of fresh dill.

Blend until smooth or desired consistency is achieved.

Once I got the consistency I wanted I added in a small (my hands are small :)) handful of Cashews and lightly blended giving the dip some texture but this is not necessary.

 

If you want to have more dill flavor or just some herb showing, finely chop Dill and stir in at the last moment.

You can use it as a dip for lots of veggies or crackers.

Healthy eating means different things to different people.  It has become clear to me that it’s something I do every day and I love sharing with people who are interested..  I’ve been asked several times lately if I was going to get back into doing more recipes.  I was hesitant at first as I have a hard time writing things down, like the measurements of a recipe –  it takes great discipline.  I have the ability to walk in the kitchen and get creative and make up recipes as I go or look at one and modify it to what I want or what I have on hand.  I also realized that a lot of people don’t or can’t do that, so why not share.

I also wanted to be more frank and candid about my journey through my disordered eating and how I’ve been able to heal that addiction, my past and move forward being happy and being me.  Addiction to food is big in our society now a days – I want to touch on that and help people understand the benefits of eating healthier, incorporating more real, more fresh foods, more greens and more superfoods into their way of eating.  It doesn’t have to be hard,expensive, boring and time consuming.  Besides are you worth it?  I mean if you don’t take a little extra time or care with what you put in your body today, your body down the road will let you know.

I can speak from experience, after a 7 / 8 month in the film industry working long, some very long days, eating in many restaurants (trying to still eat healthy), or catering from food trucks and yes they had healthy dishes but always on the run, I was a bit burnt out, I was actually depleted.  I needed to be putting extra things into my body and when I’m out the door between 6 and 6:30 am and back anywhere from 7 – 8 pm at night some things slid.  It does catch up with you.

Strawberries-waterI’ve had some down time these past few weeks and wondering in what direction did I really want to take my life, how did I want to live and spend my time.  Nothing was really feeling right.  Then it all clicked and I knew deep in my soul what I wanted and needed to be doing – so I hope that you will stop by again and check out what’s coming up as my goal is to share healthy eating ideas, green, superfoods, raw & vegan recipes, inspiration from breaking free from emotional eating & some Photographs along the way!
