We are heading out on a road trip today.  It’s been a crazy, amazing time leading up to this moment and I’ve been so present in what I have been doing that I gave very little time to thinking about this trip – more about all of that in another post.

As we make our way down to Florida and back over a couple of months I want to connect with women who would like to have a private photo session either just for themselves or to be part of my book coming up – Raw, Naked and Beautiful.

I am looking for women who want to be part of the Conscious Feminine to share their stories of their journey of coming back to more of themselves, more love, more self love and are body proud!!!

I have been receiving messages from the women who I have been doing nude photography sessions with on how much it has furthered their journey, empowered them, healed them and more.

The more love and self love we can bring back and embody is powerful!!

It’s time to take back our power!

Are there other ways?  Of course, but this is one powerful way too, it may not speak to you but the women who have gone down the path of an eating disorder or similar, have had body issues, self esteem issues and who have bought into the lies by the advertising, media and more that we aren’t enough, nor good enough or again similar will get this!!

Please pass this on and or reach out to me as I would love to connect with you if this is resonating with you!!

Season of Self Love

Season of Self Love

www.jodiburke.com

I was going to call it Summer of Self Love but thought no, it needs to be longer and even Season of Self Love is too short,it really should be seasons!!

As many of you know that have followed me or my blog food and healthy food, / eating has been a big part of my life, food has also been one of my biggest challenges in my life – from not eating to binging to in my earlier years body obsessed to strict eating guidelines (raw foods only) to letting go of any and all rules and names (vegan, raw, foodie etc) to coming to pretty much a neutral place.

I even gave up trying to convince others they shouldn’t eat this or that or telling them what they should eat.  I feel so much lighter.  I also gave up trying to be perfect – that was a big one for me.

We are all so different when it comes to body shapes, body sizes, our genes (to a certain degree) and our likes and dislikes.

The base for me still resides in as close to nature as possible – clean and organic but I also have really allowed myself to be human and know I’m not perfect and stop being so hard on myself.

Believe it or not how and what we eat, really does say much about how we love ourselves.

Now I totally understand some people never have an issue with food, their bodies or self love, but I’m not talking to those people.

I want to connect and share my thoughts, messages and journey with the ones that have and are struggling with food issues, body issues, low self esteem issues.

I think back over my life and all the time I wasted on working out trying to get my thighs thinner – now please don’t misinterrupt what I am saying here, there is a difference between an obsession, loathing your self or your body and being healthy happy and free of that and still wanting to be, feel and look healthy.

What is the difference and fine line?

I turned 50 in December and right around the same time I put o an extra 10 lbs.  First time in my life where my eight has been heavier and not coming off.  Yes I’m in menopause, and I have readers (wth where did the time go!!??)  It actually brought up the last of my body issues that I hadn’t fully embraced.

Could I still love myself enough even with some extra weight, some cellulite?  I was eating healthy, getting some exercise – ok not like I used too when I was younger, working out daily, waitressing (so running around) and then 2 young children – busy young children (more running around).  I did work at my computer more, read more, and took life a little slower after being so busy for years.

I also wasn’t having really any other side effects other than the odd little night sweat, so quite frankly I could live with a few extra pounds – but I still had some demons – not feeling good, enough or sexy.  My clothes were tighter, I could see my body shifting.

Perfect – what better time then now to really let go of that bs yes bullshit and belief systems on my body defines who I am.

I love taking care of it, I love feeling good, healthy, radiant, alive but it’s not who I am.

It’s the place that my soul calls home.

And just like the house we live in, we do need to take care of it so it looks nice (or not),  and make it our home so we are comfy in it,surrounding ourselves with things we like.

Would we spend much time in a place we didn’t like? Maybe temporarily to save for your ‘dream’ home or one that better suits you, unless money is a major factor for where and how we live, we can still decorate the inside of it to be our temple.

What are the ways to take care of you that maybe you have forgotten or left behind?

For me I am and have started to love me just for me – I’m here, alive, unique and instead of trying to fit in, focusing on my gifts, joy, love and more fun.  Each day is difference but I do something daily that uplifts my spirits, that nurtures me, that feeds my soul – how do I know? It just feels good.

I might go for a walk in the rain forest here or shoot a sunset – one I’ve shot many times but it always brings me joy, connect with an old friend, take an afternoon cat nap, learn a new tool in Photography, have my toes painted – love having colourful toes in the summer, send a love note to my honey, yoga for the sake of connecting and feeling my body not for exercise.  That one alone feels so good and different.

Just like the sunsets and sunrises that I love to catch – they are never the same.  To some people they may be, but not to me.  Each moment, each day is new, so are they and so am I – I get to choose  – why not choose beauty and love.

Maybe it’s my age that I’ve come more into me and some moments I almost wish I could go back in time and take my wisdom, self love and knowledge back to my earlier years so that I wouldn’t waste all that energy on fighting my body, hating it or abusing it.

I look forward to posting more on these topics and more especially for women as it’s totally out of control now.

Seeing the younger generation with food, body issues and dieting really saddens me – it’s incredible what marketing and advertising can do to us.  Yet it’s not just them, it’s women in general.

Start adding in sprinkles of self love and self nurturing no matter how busy you are, cause if you don’t you may be forced to at some point in your life and trust me that way is not always fun!!

Have an amazing day and create some more self love for YOU!!!

I posted on my FB wall today the saying “Love is the absence of judgment“.

Take a few minutes today to just reflect on that.  We usually first think of it when we are walking down the street and see someone who could be homeless, or dressed weird or has multiple tattoos and thoughts pop into our heads – we are aware those judgments.

Yet, what about for yourself – your body?

Just pay attention to the thoughts and feeling that come up for you!  If it’s not total acceptance and love then it’s judgement and you deserve better!!

Create a fantastic day with much love!

Purium Superfood Treats

Since I use an love Purium an  the Ignite Road Trip  is on and about half way through the tour with 100’s of people c coming out, I thought I would include this recipe!! If you are curious about Purium, why Purium, why green foods, why David Sandoval or Amy Venner then join 100’s of other people attending these events  (if it’s not already too late) and getting tapped in, tuned in and turned on to the wave of the future and the importance of Green food!!!

If you think you would like to try this recipe then feel  free to check out the Purium products ( Tropical oil aka Coconut Oil – probably the best I’ve tried, Activated Barley and the L.O.V Live Organic Vegan ), contact me with any questions or go straight to order these products and use the $50 Gift Card (code is eatinghealthy) or better yet you already have these products and can use them right away!!  Yes you could substitute them as well and I will give suggestions yet it just won’t be as tasty or probably nutritious – ok I may be a little biased here but I know what I know!! 🙂

www.jodiburke.com

Please note – most of Purium’s products are foods  and they are live, vegan, organic (certified whenever possible) AND NON-gmo.

Mash 1 Avocado well

Mix in

2 tbsp Coconut oil (Purium’s Tropical Oil)

4 tbsp raw Cacao Powder

4 tbsp raw organic Almond butter (try for raw if possible)

4 tbsp Activated Barley (Purium’s Activated Barley) the closet substitute I would use would be ground Hemp seed

6 tbsp L.O.V.E. (Purium’s L.O.V) another live, vegan protein source/powder or even ground Hemp

2 tsp Spirulina (Purium’s Spirulina)

www.jodiburke.com

Mix well together either by hand or in a food processor

Roll into balls or flatten them

Can roll that in shredded raw Coconut or raw Cacao Powder with some Monk fruti sugar (or other type if wanted any sugar at all – not needed)

Keep in fridge

Makes great snacks, treats and since it’s loaded with nutrition and the Activated Barley (slow burning germinated carb) you will have sustained energy!!  If all ingredients are raw, including the almond butter you have a tasty and live treat!

Enjoy and please feel free to share this!!

Slow Motion

Slow Motion

2015-07-18_0001

One of the things I love about practicing Long Exposure Photography is it gets me to really slow down, breath, take a look around, and practice Gratitude.

I choose the tag line Healthy is Cool for more than just food. Food is very important, so are our thoughts, feelings and actions.

They are all part of the whole body, mind, spirit connection.

Superfoods ar nutrient dense foods – could also say high vibration foods.

Thoughts can be high vibrational as in empowering, self loving, non-judgmental or they can be low vibrational as in disempowering, self criticism or judgemental.

Emotions can be high vibrational (love, gratitude, joy) or low vibration (anger, fear, doubt).

Actions and Words are the same.

The higher the frequency, the higher the energy, the higher the connection.

Sometimes being in slow motion is being fully present, alive, aware and unplugged!! We all need those moments to recharge and connect with ourselves and to be able to be clear

I just found this quote and I quite like it – enjoy!

‘I want to know the thoughts of Source – everything else is just details”

Stanley Park

2014 was a very interesting year for me.  I had many experiences this year – ALL about growth, not always fun but reflecting back ooooh so worth it!!.  If we are not stretching ourselves and growing / expanding then decay, death, aging, limitation set in.  Some were hard, a few even painful lessons but many more lessons and experiences were amazing.  I had to let some people go in my life and guess what? New, more healthy, conscious people came into my life to help me further on my path that I strayed from and because of that even more amazing things have been happening.

As the last few hours of 2014 are upon us – take some time to reflect over the past year and set clear intentions on what you would like to experience, create, feel, allow in in 2015 – YOU are the creator of your life – live it to the fullest in ALL areas!!

May Love, Health, Happiness and Abundance be in your world today and always!!!

Thank you for stopping by and being here!!

Making Lemonade

Making Lemonade

Lemons

Making Lemonade

How often do you get thrown some lemons – you know life’s little hard knocks, or lessons when we aren’t really paying attention!!

Are you able to take those lemons and turn them into Lemonade?

One of the best ways I have found is to have an attitude of gratitude – no matter how s@*^y it may seem and trust me I know I’ve been there.

If you can really reach for that attitude of gratitude or the love or just let that anger or frustration or whatever else it is go – just let go and be in the flow – you are making lemonade and you will feel better, lighter, happier trust me I know that one too.

It’s when I dig in, fight back, resist or think too much that I twist myself, my head or my body in knots.

I don’t know you about you but I would rather be sitting back, chillaxin and drinking lemonade!!

Now that is food for thought eh??

Make it a great day!!

Ahhh I can feel the breeze gently blowin,  layin in the hammock, sipping away………..

What Others Think

What Others Think

2014-03-25_0002

I was brought up hearing often, especially when I was a teenager – ‘What will the neighbours think?’

I look back on that now and laugh and think who cares!!

All too often many of us do get caught up with those sort of thoughts, feelings or even the energy of it.

Think about it for a moment – if you truly didn’t care what others were thinking about you or what your were doing, eating or wearing – would things be different?

I am talking about being able to live, think, feel and say YOUR truth, without harm to anyone and without any attachment to how anyone will react or respond.

I bet you that you are holding yourself back.

This photo is an HDR photo – High Dynamic Range – I like a lot of these photos – depending on what has been photographed. Some don’t need it at all and some – well it’s fun, creative, different.

Sometimes when I take my camera out – it doesn’t truly catch what I want or am able to see and portray it.

I want to play, be creative, be different but for me for a long time I was caught up with ‘What will people think? What if they don’t like it?’

Then I realized for myself – it’s my life – what bring ME joy, happiness, love and allowing me to be me?

Sometimes normal is boring.

Sometimes it’s fun being a little different instead of the same old, or bold, or standing out, or bringing in a fresh perspective.

Ask yourself  – how or where are you holding yourself back?

Remember as a kid you didn’t do that.

What if you brought back some of that kid like energy of just being you.

It could be some fun, or it could be a lot of fun – let go, stop comparing, judging or wondering what they are thinking as they are probably to busy doing or thinking the same thing you are!!

Have an amazing day!!

Jodi

Life is Amazing

Life is Amazing

Banff-Mt-Rundle

Life is amazing, so be amazed. Instead of acting like you’ve seen it all before, live as though you’re seeing it all for the first time.

It may not look like you think – you may see things differently or really for the first time.

Each moment is new, so be with it and with the highest of expectations.

Let yourself be curious and fascinated by what you see.

There is never any reason to be bored. Embrace a vision of life that is endlessly fascinating and truly amazing.

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing – be amazed. And your life, along with your whole world, will indeed be amazing.

Your life can change in an instant.

Make it a beautiful day!!

Chocolate

Chocolate on Valentines

I have been playing around a little with making some chocolates for the special ones in my life.

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of romance and chocolate candy is both an everyday pleasure and a token of love. Sales of chocolate candy soar on Valentine’s Day as men buy it as a gift to express their love to their wives and girlfriends.  But what if there is not that special someone in your life on this day? Why is it one day we stop and get romantic and the people who aren’t in a relationship feel left out??

Well, I say we need to celebrate love every day, no matter who we are with.  If that means loving ourselves more, then that is what we should do.  We are often, us women in particular and well I can only speak for myself, but I have been quite hard on myself in the past, and that just doesn’t fly any more.  Life is way tooooo short to be hard on oneself, so today if there is not a significant other in your life, make yourself first and foremost and do something special for YOU, buy yourself some great chocolates, or flowers, or have a long soak in the tub with some candles and a glass of wine, or get a massage or have a work out or send some chocolates to a friend or whatever turns your crank, but show some love and have some fun!!

I can’t yet share my recipe for chocolates as I have been experimenting and I haven’t come up with the best one I think.  They are fun to make and of course everyone in the house loves them, and they are on the healthy side too!!!  There are such pros and cons about chocolate, even raw cacao, for health benefits or not to consume at all.  My belief is that in moderation and good quality is ok, after all we are here for only a little while, we might as well have some fun!!!

These chocolates have

cacao butter

cacao powder

coconut oil

vanilla

honey

maca

spirulina

and nuts.

Have a Happy Valentines Day and give some love, especially to yourself!!!
