Conscious Eating brings more Light into the Body!

What is Conscious Eating?

Instead of eating mindlessly, putting food into your mouth almost unconsciously, not really tasting the food you’re eating, sitting in front of the tv or computer or the phone … you notice your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. You learn to pay attention to: Why you feel like eating, and what emotions or needs might be triggering the eating if it’s truly not hunger!

In todays world of over 200 ‘diets’, many products, processed foods,  fast foods, entertainment, advertising there is so much emphasis on food and body and yet health problems, obesity and eating disorders keep rising.

If you are a Vegetarian, that’s not good enough for the Vegans, if you’re a Vegan that is not good enough for the Raw Foodies and if you’re Raw then that is not good enough for the Breathatarian.

What if you’re an Emotional eater?

Addiction is something that every one of us has experienced at one point or another to something!! We’re quick to point to the “big” addictions as being the obvious saboteurs in our lives, like drugs, alcohol,  smoking but what about the gradual and socially acceptable drug of choice—food?

It’s the number one killer of our bodies and thief of our joy, that causes heart attacks, obesity, diabetes, certain cancers, dementia, depression, eating disorders and so many other diseases.

Through my cycles of an eating disorder, emotional eating / not eating, becoming a Raw For Chef then letting all points of view go to come to a balance that truly works for me – I’ve learned a lot!! 🙂

This is some of what I feel I know since I cleaned up many of my emotional triggers I didn’t need to use food to fill the hole in myself that I was feeling or stuff down (over eating or binge eating) the emotions I didn’t want to feel.

That I need to eat what is right for me and my body – it’s easier to listen to it when the food is clean.  My body does well eating mostly fresh or real foods yet it goes through stages of wanting more protein and sometimes cooked foods depending on where I am – big difference between living in Mexico and Vancouver for weather!!  I enjoy what I put in my mouth – if I don’t or my body doesn’t like it I don’t eat it – I don’t care how good it is for me!!  I have cleaned up my body and taste buds so that I know the difference – not like eating highly processed foods then having a wheat grass drink and hating it – no not that way!! 🙂

Once we get rid of the highly processed foods we can actually tune into our bodies better and what they truly desire  and when not what we think we should eat.  The SAD pyramid way of eating has done a lot of damage in many ways!  As with many other diets – we need to learn to trust ourselves and what OUR body is telling us NOT diets or measurements or times!  There is nothing better than conscious eating – being conscious and doing anything  really – compare it to like sex – are you on your phone or watching tv while having sex? If so maybe it’s not the right relationship!! 🙂

Be Present in the Moment

When I eat I am present – no tv (I never watch the Tel LIE Vision anyways), no computer or on my phone – I have no idea then what I ate or how it tasted!

I slow down when I eat and I also try to pay attention to my conversations – if I’m upset or angry I don’t eat then.  Why? If everything is energy why take on more of that??

I try to bless my food, ask that it provide the most nutrition it can to my body and give thanks – again if everything is energy – Dr Emoto proved it with the water – Gratitude and Love – highest vibes!!  (still working on this one as I don’t always remember yet I do while creating the food in the kitchen).

Not to push my beliefs or my ways onto others – I am not in their body and I have no idea truly what is for  their highest good – I can only make suggestions to possibly wake up someone to a better or different way, a more natural or cleaner way yet with no attachment.

I’ve learned to love myself just the way I am and my body – my only regret with this one is why I didn’t do it sooner – it’s so much easier and freeing.

What does Higher Vibe Living with Food truly mean in our food obsessed culture!!?

Since being in Mexico I have been on an exploratory journey – clearing much old energy, old programs, wounds etc and diving much deeper into learning about Quantum Physics, who we truly are, unplugging from the Matrix and that ALL programing is a construct of our minds – look around – most people are running on auto pilot yet don’t know it.

Some – many are waking up.

We are NOT human beings – we our Souls – and while we are on planet Earth we live in what we call bodies.

Now, while we inhibit our bodies we do need to take care of them as we live in the dense 3rd dimension – we are not pure Love & Light…..yet., which is energy!

Yet at the same time we have become a culture that is food and body obsessed.

These again are distractors and programs that create separation, judgment and more.

Why?

I will share with you in a minute and please don’t get me wrong – I am and have been into healthy eating and living for many years – yet I keep it simple – I keep it real – real food, real body products, real feelings (I will also go into more of that in a post)……..it’s not rocket science yet today it is more overwhelming, confusing and make work projects to find real food and body care products so that at least our bodies aren’t polluted.

What real food looks like!!

Marketing is big and we are being lied to constantly!!

When I became a Raw Food Chef – I felt I was better, had better knowledge and was higher on the scale of …..I don’t know really just felt I was better – judgment, separation as I judged many people on what they ate or didn’t eat.  I have also been at the other end of the spectrum with an eating disorder and know what it is like from both perspectives!!

We have Raw, Vegan ( I do subscribe to non-cruelty and that we don’t need any or near as much meat as we have been lead to believe we need – eat it consciously if you choose to eat meat) Vegetarian, Paleo, Ketosis and I could go on.  Most feel they have figured it out and it’s the right answer.

For some it is.

Real Foods and Superfoods

Yet does it truly matter?

I will always come back and say that there is a HUGE difference in a big live colorful raw salad compared to Rotten Ronnies oops I mean McDonald’s  as an example.

But lets look at the energy of it instead of just the nutritional value or not of it – one is certainly vibing at a higher rate – live real foods will always trump dead process foods.  It feeds the body and cells and the body knows how to digest it and utlize it.

With dead highly processed foods the body is so busy trying to get it out of the system ASAP – sluggishness, bloating etc

When we start looking at everything as energy and vibration because everything IS energy – you start to wake up, you start to choose differently – usually starting with food first as then you can think clearer, then you will want to use cleaner products on your body – since your body is the biggest organ and absorbs ALL.

You may want to start doing Yoga (or something similar), meditating, spending more time in nature,  adding in superfoods, being alone or taking responsibility for ALL things in your life as a few examples.

That is all part of raising one’s vibe – raising one’s awareness – becoming more conscious.

Then you let go of judgments, right vs wrong, labels, and possibly even programming keeping you separate from yourself which in essence separate from everyone else.

When one keeps raising their vibration – less food is needed and one truly only wants real food – as real food (usually what comes from a plant not process in a plant aka man made for profit not real health)is what feeds the body and nourishes the cells – one starts becoming more aware of energy and starts playing with that – stepping more into the 4th dimension where things are lighter, more love, less judgment therefore separation – hence less food is needed especially toxic food.

Taking on a way of eating for any other reason than truly feeding the body and cells is just another way to have judgments and create separation.

As we are living in the 3rd dimension food is needed to sustain ourselves.

Why not eat the best?

Junk food is labelled that for a reason. Are you junk?

When it’s time to leave this world will we truly be thinking how important it was to eat a certain way for a label, true health or how much we loved?

There are people too who use food to escape, self comfort, manipulate, over-indulge in or are addicted to (all the chemicals in the processed foods many are addictive ones).

Real Food

Keep it simple – keep it real – the body then knows how to utilize it well.

Pay attention today to see where you are at with food – aka any judgments with self or others? Pre-occupied continually with food – what to eat and when or are you listening to your body?  If you can’t hear what it truly wants then that is a tell tale sign to start a clean up process as once you let go of any programs or contructs around food and body you can tap into more heart energy and love.!!

LOL – I couldn’t resist putting in this photo – looks like void of life eh? Isn’t that similar to so much of our so called ‘ food’ is these days??

If I was just starting out today to change how I was eating towards better healthy, real foods, I would be so confused and overwhelmed I probably wouldn’t do anything and I have a feeling that has happened and is happening to many people.

We have people from every way of eating claiming that it’s the best and the only way – from vegetarian, to vegan, to raw foods, to Ketogenics, to Atkins, and I could go on!!!

Everyone is talking about food, eating food, celebrating with food, shopping for food, watching food channels and more.  It’s trendy to be a Foodie now.  There is so much more marketing and awareness, but my question is WHY did it become so confusing, scientific,  and even complicated!!??

What drives me nuts even more so is the labels, the mis-marketing, the confusion like when I google Superfoods I get blueberries, salmon and eggs…..seriously?? WTH?? Or Gluten -free yet has more toxic ingredients then if it wasn’t glue free.

Superfoods are nutrient dense foods – I don’t think those are it!!

What I have noticed is food is everywhere and so much of it is still chemical concoctions labelled as food and we are mass consuming much of the wrong things still – so much so that I was just informed in Canada they are pushing through an Obesity Tax.  At first it actually pissed me off as I thought how rude, BUT the foods that people overeat and make you sick and fat will have the tax.  Well, fine and dandy but I feel the crappy food or so called ‘food’ should just be removed period!!! I mean if it isn’t  food but chemical concoctions, and people are getting fat and sick by eating them, then lets get rid of them!!  Oh, but what about profits?………..it really comes down to that and another way to get more money out of people.

It bothers me as so much of that food has so many chemicals in them, there are now over 10 000 food chemicals and some them are addictive ones.  So not only are you eating high empty calorie and saturated fats type foods but with no nutritional value, so your body really still is hungry even though you have eaten something.  Yet on top of that they use addictive chemicals so now you want even more…….kind of sick isn’t it??

What’s truly the difference between Non-gmo (and why do those companies have to get that labelling and yet the GMO companies and products don’t have to???) and GMO free?  GMO free is ALL ingredients are gmo free, but non-gmo can have a certain amount of gmo’s in them……….yeah figure that one out.

What about real foods that mother nature gave us, organic as much as possible, simple, clean and natural……..boring you say?  That’s because your taste buds and emotions have been overtaken by the chemicals and I’m not being sarcastic here it’s actually the truth.  Emotions and addictions are big and the food industry knows that!!!

When you go back to clean food and try to eat highly processed foods (even with natural, organic or labels like that on them – if they are processed they are processed period, yes they can have better quality ingredients but……..and yes I am not perfect I do eat some) you won’t be able to eat them, your body will not want them and you will know and feel it.  I hope your food addiction doesn’t control you!! 🙂  It’s not what you do sometimes, it’s what you do all the time – other words what are your habits??

What though with all of this food around and it being trendy to be a foodie and the addictive chemicals in the food does one do that struggles with emotional eating or has an eating disorder?

There’s nothing more freeing than making peace with food, having to have no label about how or what you eat and loving yourself enough to feel good enough not to have to use or abuse it, not being controlled by it and not over needing it!

Last week I got to sit with Tandi for al little bit and have an conversation – this beautiful being is so busy as she is out to help people wake up to real health!! As we speak, she is in the process of opening her new and bigger health bar in the city of Wenatchee in Washington as she is expanding.  The Hunter’s Wife (don’t you just love that name!) is a  little outside health bar in East Wenatchee, which serves amazing healthy juices, smoothies and food and is  attached to a Yoga studio. (but is closing as bigger space was needed – yay!! people are waking up and wanting real food!!)

Q  –  What does health mean to you?

Health to me is everything. It’s my platform for quality living. I’m worthy to have a fantastic, beautiful life. Health of the mind, body, and spirituality is key.

Q  –  When or what got you started down this path?

I was raised on frozen pizza’s, French toast, and ice cream. I ate this way most of my life. During that time I never was satisfied. I hated my body, I hated my skin, I was the biggest bully to myself. I so badly wanted to glow. I just didn’t know how.
The turning point for me was witnessing my grandmother pass from cancer. She was my best friend. I was depressed, and stuck in toxic habits. It was the darkest time in my life. I knew that it was my own responsibility to take care of myself so that I wouldn’t let my grandma down.
I started juicing. I juiced everyday. It didn’t matter if I was 10 minutes late to work, I stuck to it and it wasn’t long before I witnessed the shift in my body and mind. I started to fall in love with real food. It proved it loved me back. Years of acne scares disappeared, I slept fantastic, I took up yoga, running, biking, everything in my world was improving. There was no way I was going back to that darkness again.
3 years later I married my high school sweetheart in the heart chakra of the world, Maui. It was my happy place. We drank out of coconuts, swam in warm ocean water, and snacked on beautiful acai bowls. It was there that I knew I had to bring this happy place to my home town. And help others heal and change their lives. I’ve elimated all things and don’t serve me, and I created a job for myself to be around like minded people. Q  –  What are some of your favourite health foods?

It depends on the day. I LOVE my banana’s. And I never go a day without raw dark leafy greens on my plate. Plant foods make me feel alive.

Q  –  If you could share some advice for people getting started on the health path what would it be?

IT TAKES TIME. Consistency is key to achieving life long healthy habits. You have to ask yourself, what’s important to you? If being comfortable in your own skin is a priority you will make it happen. Don’t over complicate things. There’s a lot of “health plans” out there that confuse us. Some plans work but 9 times out of 10 I witness people going backward. I just heard on the radio today that someone is trying to sell a pro biotic that is “found in skinny people” for weight loss and wellness. Uh? No. Look at nature. Your cells are always working FOR you. Your a living thing. It’s common sense to me, to eat living foods. And then everything else will fall into place. But be patient. Trust your body and nature to heal you on a cellular level. Good things take time.

Being vegan, I can eat as much fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats that I desire. I don’t have to worry about counting calories, portions, my weight. It’s effortless. I love this abundant lifestyle. And it makes me sad to see so many people struggle with getting on tack with their health. No more shots in the belly, or crazy vitamin drinks, working out extensively, or calorie apps. My juice bar – The Hunters Wife Health Bar is my happy place, to share for everyone to feel great and be great in the simplest form. Can I also mention that this lifestyle is cheaper? More convenient? And lifelong health insurance? I hope someday we can all rise above the pollution of negative self talk, bogus advertising, food restrictions, caffeine prone anxiety, and the truth about cancer. We’re all worth it.

I got to have a great conversation with Jessie and Daniel before I got some time with Tandi and they are pretty cool too – what I am finding is most people that are into real food eating, healthy eating, living, being and consciousness  usually are – they walk their talk and are so interested in waking people up!!

Who says eating healthy has to be boring or all just veggies??

I truly believe that things in moderation and of course the healthier versions are always better options!!

Raw cacao before highly processed and cooked (ie all our chocolate bars etc that we can buy at check outs or in grocery stores) have no nutritional value what so ever and have a ton of processed white sugar – something that brings no nutritional value to the body and literally takes from the body as well!

It’s incredible too when you can sneak in superfoods  – tasty yet healthy and nutritious like none other!!

There are healthy alternatives – I hope you experiment with the recipe and create what truly tantalizes your taste buds or just enjoy as is!!

–         ½ cup raw Cacao Butter

–         ¼ cup raw Cacao Powder

–         1 tbsp Spirulina

–         1 tbsp Rice Bran Solubles (optional – Purium)

–         ½ tsp Cinnamon

–         1tsp Vanilla

–         ¼ cup Hemp

–         ¼ cup Agave (or Honey)

Raw Superfoods Chocolate

Melt the Cacao Butter over a double boiler on low heat.

Once melted stir in remaining ingredients and mix well until all is dissolved and smooth

Pour into chocolate molds or into a glass square baking dish and store in fridge for best results (may soften if out at room temp) and to keep longer.

Raw Superfoods Chocolate gives you the chance to enjoy sweets without the guilt. It’s really a healthy way to savor the goodness of chocolates.

Spicey Nuts

This raw spicy seed mix is an easy recipe – it just takes a little time.  These kinds of snacks are handy to have on hand when you are busy, rushed or didn’t get a chance to eat properly, are over hungry or need a little snack. This is one of the raw vegan recipes that are easy to make unless you use the oven then it may not be raw.  When buying nuts or seeds always make sure that they say ‘raw’ otherwise they will not be and most of the nutrition is not there any longer.

Pumpkin seeds are great for you especially when they are raw or sprouted.  I like making mine a little more spicy than this recipe but not everyone does so this is a good place to start.  If you like it spicy add more or double this recipe (not the seeds though) and if you don’t like it spicy omit the Cayenne and cut back on the jalapenos.

If you time it right, it’s easy to do – i.e. soak your nuts all day then dehydrate them through the night or vice versa.  Don’t be afraid to play with the spices or spice it up even more!

Raw Chocolate Delight-4One of my favorite shakes to make is a creamy cherry shake, so the other day I was quite interested in cherry and chocolate – who wouldn’t be? 🙂

I also love chocolate and nuts when I eat chocolate and once you have good raw chocolate, it’s hard to go back to any other kind.  I thought I would create a cherry hazelnut chocolate delight – in theory it sounded good, but it didn’t stay solid enough to eat with you hands so then I thought lets mix it in with the Raw Chocolate Mouse and oh my – chocolate party was happening in my mouth let me tell you!

Since it was all raw, vegan and loaded with superfoods, there was no guilt – I had it for breakfast – not something I do often but boy was it good!

One of the great things with summer is all the fresh foods and the wonderful friends that share with you!!  I had a dear friend share a bunch of plums with me this past week and after eating some I had to create something different – I was pleasantly surprised and got good feedback from the friends that tried it.

Another easy and tasty dish that makes eating healthy easy.  totally vegan almost raw, if you decide to leave out the black beans then it is raw!!

Plum Salsa

–  12 – 16 smaller Plums

–  4 small Cucumbers

–  1 cup finely chopped Cilantro

–  juice of 1 Lime

–  ½ Jalapeno pepper finely chopped

–  ½ finely chopped purple Onion

–  1 Red Pepper finely chopped

–  ¾ tsp Himalayan Sea salt (adjust to taste)

–  1 can Black Beans drained

–  pinch Cayenne Pepper (optional)

Mix well all ingredients together in a bowl

Serve as a side relish dish or use as a salsa for nacho chips.

RAw Chocolate Mousse Parfait

 

Finishing up another Transformation Cleanse and feeling fantastic – I wanted to stay with eating light, raw and healthy – especially since the weather is so hot – it’s easier to do this at this time of the year.

Another raw and vegan recipe that is easy to make, tasty and can be loaded with lots of nutrition making eating healthy much easier, so much so I had it for breakfast 🙂

 

Raw Chocolate Mousse Parfait

 

–  2 large Avocados

–  1/4 cup Raw Cacao Powder

–  1/4 cup Agave

–  1 tsp Vanilla

Optional ingredients (and only suggestions but these can really increase nutritional value since these foods are very nutrient dense and therefore will stay with you much longer as in not getting hungry soon after) 1 tsp Spirulina,  1 tbsp Rice Bran Solubles, 2 tbsp Hemp, 1 tbsp Maca – you could  use all of them together and it would still taste amazing and really be filling!!

 

Throw all ingredients into a processor and process until smooth – adjust for taste.

Choc Mousse-3

 

Nut Crunch

–  1 tbsp Coconut Oil

–  1/4 cup Coconut sugar

–  1 tbsp Hemp

–  1 tsp Chia seeds

–  2 tbsp chopped Walnuts

In a frying pan, on medium heat, melt the coconut oil then add in the coconut sugar and stir until it thickens.

Then add in the rest of the ingredients to well mixed and continue to stir for about a min.

Remove from heat and spread on a cookie sheet. I like to keep my in the fridge but you don’t have to, once cool break it up into smaller pieces.

(this can be eaten on it’s own, add into salads, as topping on deserts or mixed into this chocolate mousse parfait)

 

Take some of the Chocolate Mousse mixture and put into a glass or bowl, then some nut crunch, then some fruit and keep layering 2 or 3 times.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

This will make two good servings or 4 smaller ones.

Let’s start off by defining what Vegan  & Raw are, found on line –

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products.   Ethical vegans reject the commodity status of animals and the use of animal products for any purpose, while dietary vegans (or strict vegetarians) eliminate them from their diet only

In other words they don’t eat (and for some use) anything from an animal……no meat, fish, dairy, eggs, and sometimes honey.

Raw Foods- firstly Purely Raw Food is purely plant foods. Fruits, Vegetables, Greens, Nuts, Seeds, Grains, etc. No foods from animal sources. This means no dairy, eggs, or flesh. Raw food has never been subjected to heat over 38 degrees Celsius. This is also our body temperature. Anything that has been heated to above our own body temperature is dying because the enzymes, vitamins and minerals begin to deform and die at this temperature. Our bodies do not recognize cooked food as food at all. Instead cooked food is treated by our system as a toxin.

For some people that is just way too out there, doesn’t make sense or those types of people are just weird.

I am only going to talk about dietary things here, but if you think about this for example we are the only species that drinks another species milk…..why?

For meat we need to use a knife and fork, if we looked at animals in nature who are true carnivores, they teeth, mouths and digestive systems are set up completely different.

I could go on into ethical, environmental and in way more detail about health in general, but I will let some of the resources listed at the end of this blog do so as they will do it much better, I just wanted to present some info to you to maybe start you questioning some things along the way.

If we have all these diseases like stroke, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and I could go on, related to diet…….why not fix it with diet as well?

Instead we have all these medications which mask it.  Now I am not bashing things here and I do believe that there is a time and place for that, but the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over yet expecting different results.

Why would someone who has one of those issues not want to take responsibility or empower themselves and learn what they could about treating and fueling the body better, get to the root cause instead of putting a bandaid on it?

In my  teens I used to drink a ton of milk, I loved milk, that is what I drank at every meal.  I also had an ulcer by the time I was 18.  Now I can’t blame it on milk, but I was living with my Aunt at the time inToronto, as I was in college and she took me to aNature Path Dr.who got me off milk immediately (I had to drink Goat’s milk instead and that actually cured me of drinking milk altogether) and in a short time my stomach settled way down, my ulcer healed.  I have never been one to eat yogart, I just don’t like it.  Cheese on the other hand I have liked, and good cheese has been a weakness for me, but I also know that it clogs me up, weighs me down and now that I really know what is in dairy, where it comes from……..I don’t miss it at all.

Our bodies after all are our best instruments and we should take great care of them if we want them to be around for a long time and living fully – it’s proven more of a whole foods, plant based diet rocks!!!
