Diet vs Lifestyle

To me, lifestyle means a way of life, a way of living.

Diet, well, lets look at the first 3 letters DIE, need I say more??

I wonder why there are so many ‘diets’ out there? I wonder why each year new ones pop up, The South Beach Diet, The Atkins Diet, The 3 Apple a Day Diet, The 3 Hour Diet, The Beverly Hills Diet, The Cheater’s Diet, and I could go on. There is a list of about a gazillion names, well ok, maybe not that many but more than a few hundred and I’m not making the list up either!!

Eating healthy, for me, is about choices, choices I can make every day. It’s not about restriction, it’s about eating for optimal nutrition, it’s about feeling good, it’s about what works for me, it’s about listening to my body – what it wants and yes sometimes even just for fun.
Too often we are busy running around, grabbing anything on the go, we don’t even know if we really are hungry let alone what for. Lots of times, that is when the weight piles on. So, we then put ourselves on a ‘diet’.

Eating well or healthy should be a lifestyle, not I have to go on a ‘diet’ or Monday to Thursday. I starve myself those days and eat these things that I don’t even like so I can eat whatever and lots of it all weekend long. By Monday it’s like having a hangover sometimes and then only to have to go through it again next week.

Can you imagine if that pressure was taken off of you, how it would feel? Take a big, deep breath in right now and let go. Let go of the restrictions, the guilt, the pressure, the stress of the world of ‘dieting’. Take another deep breath in and let go and just sit for a minute, just a minute.

Doesn’t that feel better??

We already have enough on our plates (no pun intended!!) to have more pressure on ourselves. It shouldn’t be stressful or hard and certainly not any fun!

I leave you with 2 questions to ask yourself……….

Would you rather have a lifestyle way of eating (compared to a diet)?

and

If you fed your spirit, your soul, would you have a better relationship with food?

I know for me, it has made a huge difference in my life……..I threw away my scales a long time ago for starters!!!

Love to hear your thoughts!

    Dear Jodi,

I agree with Eating Healthy and it should not be restrictive to what you eat. Dieting too is not a bad concept if followed correctly. Mostly diet-ers are people wanting to get skinny rather than being healthy. Thus they abuse the system.

Once a month dieting on something that your body agrees to or even fasting is a good concept.

Currently I am using Ayurveda to make people healthy. The whole concept revolves around knowing what type of body is you and then eating right at the right time.

    Cheers!

Hi Kanav and thank you for the comment.
I know of Ayurveda and know that it has been around for a long time and also very beneficial.

It is about knowing you and your body.

      Cheers

    Hi Jodi,

I would like to take an overall wellness approach to my health and eating habits with the end result being my feeling and looking better. I think a lifestyle way of eating is a better overall approach but it’s just that…a lifestyle change.

I’m not overweight but could stand to exercise and eat better. The hard part for me is getting started. After all…it is a lifestyle change. I’ve done a lot of research and know what needs to be done but have not taken that first step yet.

I know I’m one of those peeple who does better with a partner but everyone is so busy now a days.

What’s something simple I can do to get started? In the meantime, I’m thinking about making the raw lime cheesecake from your Aug. 27 post.

I missed the last part, sorry. One of the best and I think easiest ways to get started is to add a green smoothie in. Best time is in the mornings, but find what works best for your and your lifestyle.
      Hope that helps
      Thanks
      Jodi

    Jodi,

I recently made a decision to begin a raw foods regimen. My body was seriously suffering the consequences of being on the go and not taking the time to make conscious decisions about food choices. I am on my 3rd day of raw foods, not quite fully on just raw foods, but making great progress. I feel great and have more energy than ever. I also feel very empowered knowing I am making better food choices for my body.

    Thanks Jodi!
